"If you're a loyal customer don't expect that to be rewarded with a lower rate, if anything the opposite. My rate increased to about double over the course of having State Farm through Ron. I finally took time to shop around and found another company that offered the same coverage at a much lesser cost, so I switched. When it came time to send a prorated refund check, the office stopped responding after a few replies when I mentioned I never got the check. I ended up getting my check months late after having to send several reminders and including more people to get this basic thing done."

"Hi Ken, I’m sorry to hear about this. It can be really difficult to see rates rising in the insurance industry and I can assure you that, after reviewing your account, you had one of the lowest rate increases compared to our newer customers. Our agency has zero control over rates and many of our competitors are offering temporary discounts for the initial period with the rate to surge at the next renewal. We don’t offer any temporary discounts as it doesn't seem fair to favor our new customers over our loyal ones like you. In regards to the refund, that is done by our corporate office as we don’t issue checks from our office. I’m sorry to hear that there was some issues as we continue to be the messenger of your requests. I'm glad you ended up getting the check. I sincerely appreciate the loyalty you had to State Farm and your support to my small business. God bless you and I hope we have the opportunity to earn your relationship in the future. - Ron"

"On August 9th, my son contacted Ron Mathai State Farm Insurance Agency to check in on transferring his renter's insurance to his new place. Lauri Bonnet helped him out with everything. Lauri Bonnet asked my son for the new address and other details to wrap things up. He emailed her earlier that day, between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. Then, at 4:00 pm, he called the agency because he was at the apartment complex and needed the declaration page of the renter's insurance to finalize his lease and move in. The leasing agent, Ashely Means, made several attempts to get in touch by calling, leaving messages, and even sending texts; as the recording suggested, texting is the best way to reach them if they're busy. She didn’t hear back, and she reached out well before 4:00 pm when my son was set to sign his lease and provide his renter's insurance details. Both my son and I called a bunch of times. Finally, I got a guy on the line. I had him on speaker and explained what was happening. My son mentioned he was at work, and the guy sighed. He then passed us over to Lauri Bonnet, and my son asked if they could send the necessary info to the leasing agent so he could complete his move. He mentioned that he had sent an email, but she insisted she hadn’t received it. He told her the exact time he sent it, which made it clear she hadn’t bothered to check her inbox. For some reason, she had a bad attitude, acting like my son and the leasing agent was a nuisance, probably because of Ashley Means, who was fantastic at her job at Portofino at Las Colinas apartments. She told Lauri Bonnet that she needed to get this sorted out and that she would stay on the line while finishing the Declaration page. Lauri Bonnet talked about her extensive experience in insurance but was super argumentative with Ashley, even going as far as to hang up on her. What should have been a straightforward appointment for my son with the Lease Professional, starting at 4:00 am, dragged on until 6:00 pm due to Lauri Bonnet's unprofessionalism. Another leasing agent, Alma Maricic, tried to help after Lauri hung up and explained that this process shouldn’t take so long, mentioning their good history with Ron Mathai Agency. Lauri then started yelling, and because of all this chaos, my son is now switching agencies. It was a terrible experience, and Lauri Bonnet's lack of professionalism was off the charts."

I was very concerned after seeing what you shared and I needed a few weeks to look further into this as I've found from experience that there’s always two stories to any review. I completely agree with you that that this could’ve gone a lot smoother than it did. There are a few conflicts in what you wrote and it's important that clarity is provided. The major cause for delay is that we are not allowed to make any changes without the insured (your son) approving verbally. While I understand you wanted to take care of your son, Laurie repeatedly said that she needed to speak to your son on the phone and she felt uncomfortable because she was being pushed to do something that is against our policies/rules (which is why she had to let you know that she has 40+ years of insurance experience and couldn't process something without approval) Again, I'm a parent myself and I completely understand your position in wanting to do something helpful on behalf of your son. It's rare for us to deal to come across situations like this so it gave me the opportunity to coach my team on how to handle this better in the future. I thank you for reminding me that, while we strive for perfection, we're all human and you gave me the chance to help improve how we serve our customers every day.
